Venturi driver Edoardo Mortara has been taken to hospital after a crash in practice for race 2 in Diriyah.

The accident happened as the 34-year-old did his practice start on the grid. The Venturi's brakes failed as he entered the braking zone for turn 18 at the end of the long, by Formula E's standards, back straight.

As a result, the Mercedes EQ's of Nyck de Vries & Stoffel Vandoorne and Mortara's teammate Norman Nato were not allowed to take to the track for group qualifying, and will resultedly start at the back of the grid for this evenings race.

The third practice session on Saturday was topped by Robin Frijns.
